Otto Frederick Schwanke Jr.

Born on the 11th day of January, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Otto F. Schwanke Sr. and Marie Schaffer Schwanke.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War as an Airforce Pilot.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 yrs, Maurine M. Schwanke (91) Fort Myers, his youngest daughter Patricia A. Latham (63) Oscoda, Michigan, and his sisters, Dolores Peyton (95) Lewiston, MI and Sister Pauline Lesczynski (91) Lewiston, MI.

He is survived by his two daughters; Janet A Samotis (77) Oscoda, MI and Cheyl Mayberry (76) Ft.Myers; his four grandchildren; Michele Lighter Lucas (57), Amy Odle (52), Laurie Latham (52) James R. Latham (55); his seven great-grandchildren; Jennifer Lucas (28), Kyle Lucas Parker (33), Drew Bower (33), Zachary Odle (28), Justin Odle (28), Charlie Latham (6), Dominic Latham (14) Zack Latham (11); and one great-great-granddaughter Charlotte (4).

Otto was a career Airforce Pilot. He trained on many jets during WWII stateside. During the Vietnam War he flew three combat missions, with tankers, B52, KC135, and KC131 transport.

In retirement Otto joined a flight club in Arcadia and flew small airplanes. Otto also enjoyed water skiing, fishing and spending quality time with his family at cabin on West Twin Lake, MI.

Otto was a good friend and neighbor; He could fix or make anything and was always available when called on for help. His best friend and companion for 10 yrs was Toby, a Dachshund mix that he rescued from a yardsale. Otto was like that, a Rescuer! He found purpose for all things, people, animals; He was a second chancer! God bless this wonderful Human being.
